This is because the rim tape effectively protects the inner tube from mechanical damage, e.g. from spoke heads or metal burrs in the rim, and covers the spoke holes.

The rim tapes have a width of 20 mm. This width is perfect for inner rim widths of 17-19 mm, i.e. also perfect for Spinergy rims. For wide OFFROAD rims (rim diameter 507 mm), the rim tape is also available in a width of 32 mm.
